Last updated: 11 October 2026 · Applies to the Tab Media Recorder extension for Google Chrome.
- Everything the extension does happens on your own computer.
- We do not collect, store, sell or share any of your data. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
- The extension contacts a website only to download media that you ask it to download, from the site that hosts it.
What the extension handles, and why
To work, the extension reads some information inside your browser. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
| Information | Why | Where it stays |
|---|---|---|
| Titles, addresses and icons of your open tabs | To show the list of tabs you can record | Only in the popup while it is open |
| The picture and sound of a tab you choose to record | To make the MP4 or MP3 file you asked for | Buffered on your computer while recording, then saved as a file in the folder you chose |
| Addresses of media files and streams that a page loads, and the videos on the page | To list what can be downloaded and show the Download button | In browser memory for the current session; cleared when Chrome closes |
| Media you choose to download | To save the file you asked for | Buffered on your computer during the download, then saved as a file |
| Your settings (save folder, quality, shortcuts) | To remember your choices | Chrome's local extension storage on your computer |
Network requests
The extension has no server and sends nothing to its developer. It makes network requests in one situation only: when you start a download, it fetches that media from the website that hosts it, the same way the page itself does. These requests may include your cookies for that site and the address of the page you were on (the "Referer"), because many sites require them. They go only to that site.
The "Support it with a coffee" and "Donate with PayPal" links open PayPal's website only when you click them. If you choose to donate, PayPal's own privacy policy applies to that payment.
Storage and deletion
- Recordings and downloads are saved as normal files in the folder you chose. You control them like any other file.
- Temporary buffers are deleted once a file is saved. If Chrome closes during a recording, the unfinished recording appears under "Unsaved recordings" in the popup until you save or discard it.
- Removing the extension deletes its settings and any temporary data.
